Hello Maggi,I see it gives the dates as
is this date for the RHS Plant & Design Show 2014 correct?:
http://www.exhibitions.co.uk/event/rhs-london-plant-and-design-show-1 (http://www.exhibitions.co.uk/event/rhs-london-plant-and-design-show-1)
Off to book a hotel now while there are some £29 rooms left!
The HPS Galanthus Group Secretary has just confirmed to me that the info in their last Newsletter is correct and their 'do' is on Sunday 16th February at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire.
The words "splitting" "half" and "yourself" spring to mind?
What are the RHS up to ??? >:(Goodness only knows - their capacity for their right hand not to know what their left hand is doing is beyond remarkable. The impression is given that they care very little for their "audience" and its need for reliable information. Reaction to contact about such things is also less than helpful. (Sigh)
We went to the RHS Harvest Festival show today. The had a pile to printed cards with the 2014 show dates as at:-
http://www.rhs.org.uk/Shows-Events/pdf/Shows-2014-calendar (http://www.rhs.org.uk/Shows-Events/pdf/Shows-2014-calendar)
Snowdrops 2 will be available soon.
Oh joy a talk on freaky snowdrops I best book it up now , just my thing :D
Oh joy a talk on freaky snowdrops I best book it up now , just my thing :D
Oh, I thought from the title that the talk was to be about the crazy people who like snowdrops!
It may seem a long way away, but am trying to find out the dates for Snowdrop Events or Sales, etc for 2014?? I'm sure all you good people can add any that you know :D CheersColesbourne Gardens Study day recommences on Tuesday 18th February 2014. Matt Bishop and Val Bourne are guest speakers. I like to ask first :)
I notice that Matt is also speaking at the Cottage Garden Society event
I was toying with the idea of going to both events but it's a long way from here to Colesbourne so I might be put-off if Matt is planning to give broadly the same talk at both events. Does anyone know (or could Matt comment)?
Maggie, are dates known yet for the Dunblane and Edinburgh shows?
So there are plenty of things to tempt our German Galanthophile friends to visit Scotland - and who knows, a change may be as good as a rest!

You are most welcome Alan, it's the only way I could keep track of what's happening! There are two new events on the list too: Cliff and Joan Curtis NGS opening and Carole and Forbes Smith ... Both lovely and could be done together! Thanks for your kind comments Brian and Richard. I must get down to some cake baking in between all these tempting events.
Any spikey snowdrops - fluff in particular
I know I am not asking for much but fingers n toes are crossed - oh and Mr Blobby
I will be setting off very early in the morning to get there for opening times so if anyone hears me snoring please kick me.Jane, think of Paddington Bear with his label "please look after this bear" - make yourself a nice big label that says "Please wake up this snoozing SRGC galanthophile " ;) ;D
Thanks
Jane

Margaret Owen does not open under the NGS scheme though Maggie,so wondered if anyone had heard
Already booked for Shaftesbury ;)
Oooops OK sorry MaggieNo worries, Chas - I should have said I wasn't replying to your post but tootling off on a Shaftesbury tangent!!
Thanks for sharing, Maggie.
Paddy I loved to read it. I will print it and keep it with my snowdrop books!
(re "1600 snowdrop and thefts)
One knock-on effect of all this is on large gardens which are open regularly with snowdrop collections and which cannot provide the security that a nursery can.
Tonight I have just been looking for opening details of three 'stately home' gardens near here which have opened with special snowdrop events that I have been to in the past. One is not opening now until the end of March and the other two have removed all mention of their snowdrop collections from their websites. Such a shame.
the brand new variety, Gal. niv. scharlockii 'Horst Kaufmann' a 100% poculiforme plant world premiere.

After the success of the Irish Snowdrop Day, "A Celebration and Naming of Irish Snowdrops" (http://www.irishsnowdrops.org/) in Offaly, Republic of Ireland last weekend, here's something by Paddy Tobin that will be of interest to those enthused by the 'drops that have been found in Ireland :

Having just recovered from a successful NGS opening on Sunday I would like to thank everyone who came, from both near and far, for their kind support and comments. It is enjoyable to share the interest in snowdrops and our garden with others. So pleased the day went well, Carole - it is wonderful that there are people like you willing to share their gardens with the public. I'll bet all the visitors had a super time.
Many thanks
Carole
We felt that being charged £18,000 for tea, cake and soup for two was a bit steep,
Just think how many snowdrops you could have bought! ;)
Just think how many snowdrops you could have bought! ;)Yes, it could be into double figures!
Fantastic snowdrop Mark.

Me? Which one?
No names for the snowdrops Ian?;)I'm mouse in real life.Your not bad at packing..... :D
Steve do you mean we've rubbed shoulders without knowing?
It's pronounced G. Berkeley (but spelt Byrkley)
Cyril, do you know where the name 'Blue Trym' comes from? Is it for the color of the leaves?Lina, the 'blue' is for the colour of the leaves, quite different compared with other 'Trym' type varieties.
Never heard of this one.
Lina.
It's pronounced G. Berkeley (but spelt Byrkley)The label in Margaret Owen's garden clearly had Byrkley, but in David Bromley's garden which we visited on Saturday, it was labelled Berkeley. I assume it is one and the same.
Cyril,Steve, the snowdrops were looking good. I was there 2 years ago when I first met you and I think they looked better this time, despite the fact that every year many are lifted for selling. One exception I noticed was Boyd's Double only had 1 flower this time. Here is a picture taken 2 years ago.
Thanks for posting the pictures. It's nice to see how they are progressing, even though i wasn't there this year.
Just a note to anybody that bought Galanthus'North Green Only' in 2013,It is the WRONG NAME,It's actualy 'Jubilee Green'.We don't want the same plant in circulation with two names. ??? ??? ???
The label in Margaret Owen's garden clearly had Byrkley, but in David Bromley's garden which we visited on Saturday, it was labelled Berkeley. I assume it is one and the same.I think it is Cyril, my notes from Joe's talk at Blacksmith's snowdrop day in 2012:
Byrkley (pronounced as Berkeley), from Shropshire: a huge G. monostictus, with all parts being extremely large
Cyril you remembered :D .I remember Margaret Owen told me the secret is it should be planted very deep but obviously it does not always perform. For me it is the most desirable spiky snowdrop and still a holy grail.
Pity about 'Boyd's Double' .I thought Margaret had found the secret of how to grow this cultivar well.I guess it's just a frustrating plant to please.
