A belated Happy New Year to everyone - is anyone going to Myddleton and does anyone know who will be selling - Iam really hoping to get a couple of snowdrops that have been on my wish list for a few years now.

Last year they produced a small taster list of sellers and what seemed to be quite rare plants but I cannot find anything as yet.

As this will be my first outing to an 'event' can anyone give me any guidance on what to expect please.

Thanks

Last year a long queue formed at the entrance to the event; you would need to get there perhaps an hour in advance of the opening time to be towards the front of the queue.  Staff move up the queue and sell tickets so there is no delay at the start.  At the official opening time there is a big rush and the most sought-after snowdrops sell-out almost very quickly indeed.  After the first 15 minutes or so things calm down and there will be plenty left.

The only sellers we know will be there in 2014 are Wol and Sue Staines (Glen Chantry).  They usually hand out a list of what will be available on their stand prior to the opening.
Almost in Scotland.

Ivy Cottage snowdrops will also be there (Michael and Anne Broadhurst) and I think you can just about guarantee that besides Monksilver ie Joe Sharman, Valerie Bexley and Richard Bashford from Woodchippings would be selling.

If anyone wants to coma back to Benington after the sale let me know, Is only about 30 mins away  straight up A10 then a few lanes, can easily arrange a walk around the garden. Not sure how much there will be to see, masses are probably still many weeks away but varieties are shooting up fast.

Monksilver Nursery (Joe Sharman) should have E.A. Bowles, and Glen Chantry Snowdrops (Sue and Wol Staines) should have Rosemary Burnham.

Monksilver Nursey was the first to get hold of and sell 'E.A.Bowles' and (I'm pretty sure) 'Mr Blobby'; they're both relatively new so I would be surprised if you found another nursery selling them yet.  They have also 'launched' a number of new spikey doubles.

'Rosemary Burnham', by contrast, is a well-established snowdrop that might potentially turn up on any stand although Martin is right that Glen Chantry are a good bet.

So, whilst standing in the queue, get the Glen Chantry handout and check to see if 'Rosemary Burnham' is on sale.  If it is, rush over there as soon as the gates are open and ask for it by name so you don't waste time looking.  Once purchased, hurry over to see Joe Sharman.  You might be able to order snowdrops for delivery/collection later in the season if he has not bought all the ones you want.

Thank you such everyone for your advice - I may even meet some of you there - there have been sales of Mr Blobby on Ebay for the last couple of years but the price it went for was very commendable.

I will be setting off very early in the morning to get there for opening times so if anyone hears me snoring please kick me.

Thanks

Jane,  think of Paddington Bear with his label "please look after this bear"  - make yourself a nice big label  that says "Please  wake up this snoozing SRGC galanthophile "   ;) ;D

I hope you have a great time!

Thanks so much - I tried to get Fluff but they don't have any left and there is a reserve list - it was from Harveys - Avon don't have it - but they do or did have Irish Green and another spikey - both on order  :)
