The rain is so local that it is almost impossible to know where it will fall.  In Ayr, we have had some, but no heavier than normal.  Although it was dry here yesterday, 12 miles inland the main road to Kilmarnock was cut as a culvert under the road collapsed due to the amount of water passing through.  The main dual carriageway to Glasgow was blocked N. of Kilmarnock due to flooding.  Some diversions were about 30 miles.  As someone who is out in the car daily, mainly in remoter parts of the countryside, I really have to think seriously about where I am going.

One "benefit" of the rain is the removal of dust from the atmosphere, although this can be replaced by water vapour.  About 9pm last night, the visibility was at least 60 miles.  I took this picture of the Isle of Jura from the beach at Irvine with the Calmac ferry, in the foreground, on it's last run to Arran.
Jura is 58 miles in a straight line from the spot where I took the picture.  If I wanted to go there, it would take a day's travel by road, plus two ferry trips.

I've had enough, over three weeks now since I did anything meaningful outside. Lawn looks like a hay meadow; not a single job from my list of summertime jobs started never mind finished and the only re-potting I've done has been Cyclamen.

Beautiful, Tom!

Although rain has poured down elsewhere, we have had rather nice weather here at our summerhouse. Just enough rain to keep the vegetation lush and green. Not much wind either.
Here are some pictures my daughter took the other day - the last ones at 10PM.

We're in the midst of a heat wave here  - 27c today and maybe 28 tomorrow, thankfully is is cooling off to the low teens at night.  Extremely dry here and the forest fire hazard is extreme.   But what on earth is going on with the plants here?  Snowdrop seeds sprouting.  Lachenalias coming up and they are bone-dry.  ???

Just to illustrate quite how bad the summer has been here, this is a pot of confused hyacinths photographed today!
Almost in Scotland.

No thanks Maggi seen enough of that these last 3 months, makes up for the whole of the winter with it being very dry.  Mind you if it carries on like this the water company will be putting the hosepipe ban back on.  It now 6 days with no rain and counting.

Yesterday was actually like summer - no jacket required.  In the evening we went to the Maidens, next to Turnberry golf course and had a walk along the harbour.
A beautiful soft summer's evening.  The place was full of middle aged men in casual gear walking up and down in groups.  I suddenly realised they were the competitors for the Senior golf tournament being held this weekend.

We came back via Dunure, a small fishing village south of Ayr, to look at the sunset over Arran.  It was still warm enough to sit outside in shirt sleeves.
The picture was taken at 10pm - and then the midges decided to come out, so it was off home sharpish.
