Can't say  I've ever seen any for sale? :-\
Well, they're not often offered, Anthony. Usually about this time of year, through Christmas time, in the supermarkets, certainly, though not in large numbers...( wee displays tucked up on a high shelf....so they must be thought naughty in Aberdeen!) I would have thought the nice Fruit shop down in your village would stock them.... the one I met Vivienne and Lucy in a few years ago on Early Bulb Day!

Since I have been in Canada, I've discovered there are different types of persimmons, some have pointed bottoms and some flat.
One ( can't remember which one) can be eaten before it gets soft.
These fruit are known as "Astringent" (bitter unless ripe to almost rotten) and "Non-Astringent" which can be eaten when ripe while still firm almost like an apple; I believe these are Japanese varieties as the most common N-A type here is called "Fuyu".

And getting back on topic:
Happy Birthday to Chloe in Ponte de Lima, Portugal!
cheers

I was about to mention the types, until I read Fermi's posting.  Must be terms that are only used over here in Aus?  You can buy the plants in nurseries here if you look around.  I've tried them and I can't say I'm particularly enamoured of them, although I don't dislike them enough to have to use one of Maggi's barf smileys or anything.  ;D ;)
Cheers.

Thought for  a moment you were on about the DDs again!  ;D ;D
I was impressed with that shop.... good that Dunblane still has such a place.... no dedicated fruit and veg shops in this part of Aberdeen anymore. :'(
There may still be one way out on George Street, but I'm not sure .... it's beyond Finnies on the bus route so out of my range (  ::) ) but it was never the calibre of the "Orange Grove" anyway. Relying on the supermarkets now.... :(
