I agree Lesley. My daughter Lucy has the first of her 2 hour lessons (normally her lessons are 1 hour) for her AB Grade 5 violin exam this morning. I have recently found my certificates for piano and violin exams. I was discussing the dumbing down of music in schools with a teacher (in Scotland) who had returned to teaching after a long break. She couldn't believe that, in a certificate music class, most of the pupils couldn't read music, and it wasn't a requirement for the course! At the same stage I had to do keyboard harmony, written harmony (etc) and play two instruments to grade 5/6 standard! I realise that you don't need to read music to appreciate it, or even enjoy singing in a choir, but surely a study of music involves the basics, which is learning to read it.

Yesterday morning I went to the Howick orchid show and purchased a few goodies. Here are two that are in flower. NZ$35 each is a bargain in my book! The first puzzles me as the label has "Pot. Perfect Choice Purple Lady BMJOCA Pot. Tokyo Bay x Lc Lake Casitas" as well as "M315 24/7/8" on it. The second is Cymbidium insigne x insigne. I also bought another Pot. Is this X Potinara, which my book says is a quadrigeneric hybrid genus derived from crosses between Brassavola, Cattleya, Laelia and Sophronitis?

For your delectation a little bit of Jackson Browne. Wish I could play like him. Just wish I could play :(

And you must have a fantastic vacuumara as well Anthony.  That carpet is spotless; we thought of planting salsify in the hall here last spring.

Just plugs into a hole in the wall John.  8) As for Lesley's observations: I also purchased a couple of potless orchids, but they are not in flower. :)

It's a matter of scale.
