Not just car manufacturers. :( The house we are temporarily in (fortunately at no cost to us) had the knob on the bath hot water tap split in two. I took it to a plumbers merchant to replace it. We are talking about something that will fit into a spindle that is shaped like a rectangle with rounded ends and allows the top to be screwed on to it. The inside of the tap knob has a black insert of this shape. The man at the plumbers said "I take it the bath is not new, because this fitting became obsolete years ago?!" I went home, got some superglue and, amazingly, this kind of plastic did glue together and will last us.

I am very happy, back from holidays and only one dead plant in my greenhouse and lucky me it was one that I didn't much like. It's good to have friends to watch all your babies when you are away.

I'm really happy today because the Pleione bulbs I ordered from Ian Butterfield arrived today!  :D
They do look great and promise beautiful flowers in a few weeks or months - watch the orchid section for that.  ;)

Oh, Anthony, isn't that a wonderful feeling. Savour it, enjoy it, take pleasure in it; it's a good feeling.

Thanks Paddy. Alas, I won't be able to see our triumph on 'Eggheads', which was recorded last March but won't be broadcast until 18th Feb. :-\

If your spirits need a lift this evening take a look at the new Toscanini -  a 3 year old conducting Beethoven.  No doubt we will be hearing from this young lad in the future.  He's a remarkable conductor already! Such talent and enthusiasm not even stifled by an itchy nose.

Yes I know but I don't get flattered a lot these days ;D

I hope Maggi and Ian latch on to this she'll be right up their street.

I hadn't heard of Emily Smith until I read a review of her new album "Traveller's Joy" in this morning's paper, and I've just ordered it.
