Shows around the country- 22nd March 2014
« on: March 18, 2014, 11:53:56 AM »
Wherever you are in the UK this weekend, I hope that you are able to reach one ofthe super evetns that will be taking place.  In Scotland , the SRGC has the Kincardine Show (obtusely known as the "Stirling"  show! ) -
Stirling Show (Kincardine) 22 March
Next SRGC Event is the 'STIRLING' SHOW #  22nd March  Note this Show is held in KINCARDINE !!
** VENUE**:Kincardine Community Centre Anderson Lane, Kincardine Fife, FK10 4SF.  :)

In England you have a great choice between the AGS shows in East Lancs  and Kent, home shows respectively of those well known forum faces, Cliff Booker and Tim Ingram ( to pick two at random!!)  :

East Lancashire AGS Show - Saturday, 22 March 2014 - 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm  held at The Riverside, Whitworth Civic Hall, Market Street, Whitworth, Lancs, OL12 8DP.
(On A 671 through Whitworth)

Kent AGS ShowSaturday, 22 March 2014 - 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm at Rainham School for Girls, Highfield Road, Rainham, Gillingham, Kent  ME8 0BX.
(M2 Jn 4; A278 to Gillingham; 2miles then right onto A2; 1 mile then after footbridge right onto Salisbury Avenue; then right onto Derwent Way)

I do hope that as many of you as possible will attend these events - and take your friends - it's a great day out. You can make it even more fun by entering some plants in the show!

East Lancs Show Committee have not done their snow dance this year and are hoping for a fine spring day.  Do come along if you can, if it's anything like Kendal last week we should have a great display.

Quite a good day at Kent today! Good turn out, some marvellous plants and a good taste of horticultural bonhomie. As time allows I aim to write a personal appreciation on the AGS website, and give some detail about everything going on. Suffice it to say - the Society was done proud!

A nice hot soothing bath, a hearty meal, two G&T's that didn't touch the sides and a quick look at the football scores and now time to report on another wonderful East Lancashire AGS Show held here at 'sunny' Whitworth today.
We welcomed sixty four exhibitors from near and far (from Whitworth to Bacup, from North Wales to Ireland, from Northumberland to the West Midlands, from the Lake District to Lincolnshire) and visitors in abundance.  The hall was packed with beautifully grown gems and three new exhibitors attracted red stickers and trophies in equal measure.  A full report with images will appear when the aforementioned G&T's wear off, but for now let it suffice to say that Frank and Barbara Hoyle took the ultimate award for the second week running with their indomitable Cyclamen (displayed this time in a wondrous six-pan), which was voted 'Best in Show', but couldn't be awarded a second Farrer Medal.  The weather was slightly exaggerated above, while the sun did shine for a minute or two we were treated to heavy rain, hail, sleet and snow for the majority of the day.  Did this dampen our East Lanc's spirit ... not in the slightest!!!  Hearty congratulations and many thanks to Carol Kellett and her magnificent team on another terrific East Lancashire AGS Show.

Rainham, It was a really nice show, the occasion to talk to several AGS & SRGC members and the shinny weather was at the party.
