Interesting winter here- started early, chilly (but never extreme- we have not even had -30C this winter, and -40C would not have been shocking) first couple of months, and mostly at or above average since Christmas, but still plenty of snow, in spite of a number of warm days.
Today a fresh 15cm or so, next few daytimes below freezing, then warm again next weekend..

Glad I don't need to shovel that amount of snow, Cohan!

David, the weather here is back to normal: grey, some rain and about 5C so no baking in the sunshine! But last week we had dinner outside 3 times.

Anthonys 27C would be extreme here even in midsummer :-\

I'm here because I had to shovel that amount of snow. Four deep plus what the snow plough had piled on top, to enable a shipping container to be delivered to our house. In the end the container was never released from Glasgow, so we had three small furniture vans turn up and the most objectionable crew attached. Several items were damaged, including my Victorian barometer, as a result. Avoid AngloPacific. They refused to pay for the damage on the barometer as it wasn't listed separately, even though they were supposed to itemise everything!! :'(

We've just has 22 days in a row without a single drop of rain and lovely spring-like weather. No heat on in the car for the three weeks.

Do you remember what happened this time last year? Very warm in March, I was at Anne's and we had a BBQ, and the weather went down hill after that

Angie, we commented that that was snowman snow- most of our snow is too dry to make snowmen, but this one was wetter- however we were barely able to remain upright after shovelling, let alone spend time building a snowman...lol By today, the temp had gone a bit lower, and the snow was once again too 'dry' to stick together, not that I'd have had time to build a snowman anyway, today was a work day..

It is fascinating that gardeners all round the world (like Australian dairy farmers) are never happy with the weather.
Would we complain if the weather was consistently suitable for growing just our favorite plants? Most likely not since we then wouldn't be able to extend ourselves.

Enough philosophy! I do have a complaint.

We in Tasmania have had a LO N G , H O T and D R Y period  (4 months without any useful rain) so keeping plants alive is a real challenge. But the roses are wonderful - no pests at all!!

I notice today that my Cantua Buxifolia looks distinctly uncomfortable.  I thought it would grow in a blast furnace!  Time for it to get a ration of soaking water.

John. never heard of cantua but it seems to be a very beautiful plant from the warm and moist Yungas of South America. Nothing for me then :-\

Here it is cool and moist.

Another very warm day today. After work I had to open the car windows to let the hot air out

Perhaps two days rain in Dunedin was needed? ::)

We're in the middle of a four month drought. Mmm. That will only make sense in two months time. ::) Well, we haven't had any serious rain since before Christmas. It is killing the grass, but it will recover. I've seen that video. It is killing established trees, including Euclayptus, which is supposed to be drought resistant!

It's dry in the deep south too . Balclutha has just had its sunniest summer on record but there were no extreme temperatures and we had a rainy day in early February . The Meconopsis have hated it with poor seed set but the Gazanias are having a great time and Delosperma seed is easy when there is no rain to disperse the seed .
Hope you were not in the traffic jam Anthony
