Scottish Snowdrops to the fore! Snowdrops in February 2012
« on: February 19, 2012, 03:21:52 PM »
It has been a grand spell for Scottish snowdrops:  the record price for Galanthus 'Elizabeth Harrison' on Ebay,  Don Peace's great pot of G. 'Sophie North' winning a Farrer medal at the  Carleon AGS South Wales  show :

and at Dunblane ( http://www.srgc.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8592.0) there were lots of snowdrops  for sale and on display.
There was a super pot of 'Elizabeth Harrison' on display - about thirty flowers in a 30cm pot. Enough to look lovely but not so many that you couldn't see and appreciate each flower.

Just about every plant stand had snowdrops for sale... though I got no chance to see most at close quarters. There was a large selection (at least 50 cultivars, I think) for sale  from Rod Begbie, a passionate galanthophile living in Aberdeenshire, who has been collecting snowdrops for around thirty years and who is now selling them via the internet. (www.galanthus.co.uk ) This was his first time selling them pot grown at a show.

Good times for Scottish snowdrops. Well deserved and appropriate to enjoy and celebrate the occasion.
