Thank you both so very very much. Wonderful cakes which I'm enjoying for an early breakfast. I'll be sick for the rest of the day. Enjoy yours too.

I thought seriously about staying up late and posting a note right after midnight but in the end thought it would be really silly, still barely lunchtime in the north, so you beat me to it after all Maggi and Per-ake. (I have 2 denim jackets, but one is a little tight - I wonder why?). I've already had birthday best wishes from David N who is off on holiday at present, and from Tim who's travelling to and in China today. That man sure gets about!

I expect a quiet birthday, packing bulbs for various people, a shared order from Marcus Harvey in Australia, then I have a large parcel of trilliums and other oddments which have accumulated here recently, to post off tomorrow, to Tim in Australia. So no rest for this wicked lady.

Thanks again. "Will you still need me, will you still feed me....."

Hi Lesley ,

Also my best wishes to your birthday !
Here I send you ( and for the younger people who not know this title from the Beatles ) the full text :

When I'm Sixty-Four

When I get old and losing my hair,
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me the Valentine,
Birthday greetings, bottle of wine

If I stay out till quarter to three
Wold you lock the door
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four.

You'll be older too,
And if you say the word I could stay with you.

I could be handy mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday morning go for a ride

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four.

Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight,
if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away

Give me your answer, fill in a form,
Mine for evermore,

Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four.

Please sing it together with your friends and have a nice party

Many greetings
Hans

I had a super day, thanks everybody very much, except that I wasn't at the Loughborough show. That would really have made my day. I hope some of you will be pleased to hear that Roger gave me a new cake mixer. The ancient model was really way past it. I christened the new one not with a cake but with a dessert, a Pavlova. Just the meringue base, whipped cream on top then fresh fruit heaped on top of that. I used peaches, strawberries, blueberries, kiwifruit and passionfruit. I'm saving a large piece just for you John. I can tell you, it's scrumptious.

At lunchtime, my Australian friend Otto Fauser phoned and I'm very happy to say he is about to become computerized and so will hopefully join the Forum soon. If not before, I'll bully him into it when I see him in a month's time. He is a great crocus/frit/iris man, but with a huge knowledge of all kinds of alpine plants from way back. A very nice man as well.

And my special thanks to Hans for your song. Are you a tenor Hans or a good, rich baritone. Either way, I enjoyed it very much.

Your plaque is beautiful John. I'll hang it in the kitchen and think of you with each cake I make.

Glad you had a good time Lesley and that you got your perfect present. Looking forward to my slice of pavlova tomorrow - I shall let you know if it as good as my mums (I must admit it looks better with all those blueberries on it - mmmmm - but don't tell her I said so!).

The plaque is made of candy so you can melt it down and use it on a cake if you are desperate for a topping one day - or just munch it as it is.

Thank you Ian. The guitar accompaniment is fine, though I was really expecting a full symphony orchestra, as the Beatles sometimes had. You'll sing to me when you arrive here? That would get the locals talking all right!

John, I thought the plaque was terra cotta and was going to hang it with another which says "Carpe diem" but as it's candy I'll sieze the plaque instead and eat it........Mmmmmm, delicious. Thanks.

And now John, since it's already March 13th here, I'll be first to wish YOU a happy birthday. I hope you have a great day with friends, family, (school children?) with lovely prezzies and things to eat. Though I think the song with its reference to "losing my hair" is for you, not me, but I wouldn't be so rude as to say so. Very best wishes from me, and I'm sure from all the southern Forumists.
