Happy Birthday, Karl!

Michael, this is good news..... especially since it is not this weekend, when I am firmly booked to go to Dunblane.... but much later in the year...Temple Bar Chocolate Festival will take place from October 30th - November 1st 2009........ pity it's not nearer the time of Termanfechan.... two birds with the one  stone, then, eh?!!

Not so Michael, there is a very big chocolate festival in Dunedin NZ, every year, towards the end of the year I think, maybe November, early summer. It runs for 9 days if I remember rightly. Many, many events, exhibitions etc and competitions, all based on the Cadbury's choc factory. My favourite is a Jaffa race (jaffas are round orange balls centred with chocolate, in case you didn't know) where the jaffas - several thousands of them - are numbered and released at the top of Baldwin St - the steepest street in the world - and the winner, obviously, is the one to reach the bottom first. All the jaffas are sponsored, i.e. bought for a couple of dollars each and the proceeds go to a designated charity. My jaffa has never won. :'(

My mistake, the 2008 festival was in July - mid winter - from 12th to 18th. Lots of info on Google.

That was what so cheered me, Michael... since you don't like the stuff, all the more for me!
Nine days for the NZ Festival seems good, but it is a long way..... Dublin is much more reachable... and for only a couple of days, the excesses can't be too bad, huh?!!  ::) Mark's Birthday is near then..... we can use that as an excuse.... :o

Well Michael, I had to try and tempt Maggi. She won't visit us for the people or the plants so maybe the chocolate would do it? And our winter is just about as warm as Aberdeen's summer ;D Then there's the skiing and skating and curling etc. Break a leg Maggi :-*

I think I'm right that Ian McEnery celebrates his 65th birthday today. Happy Birthday Ian, and can I assume that the whole of the first pension will go on plants!
