A grand-daughter, how lovely. :)  You are very lucky Ian of the Christie kind, I despair of any of my kids ever making me a grandad :(

Congratulations, Ann & Ian. That's wonderful news. I'm sure that you won't forget to toast the latest tonight.

Here we go, Folks, first pictures of the very lovely Miss Emma  Joann Colvin:

I detect a real look of her Mummy, Denise... if Emma inherits her Mum's charm as well, she'll go far!

Just thought you'd like to see the first photo of Emma's big brother, Grant, again, for comparison...

And this is how he looked last August.....

Hi to everyone and a huge thank you to you all, especially Ian and Maggie, we can now go away on Friday 16th to Southern Pategoniato look at plants along with some other complete nut cases like Ron McBeath and Finn Haugli knowing all is well. The new arrival Emma came home today, don't think big brother thinks much of her but here is a picture anyway. I will take lots of pictures on the trip and post on return, cheers Ian the Christie kind.

Perfect timing Ian. Congratulations all round. Enjoy Patagonia. Look forward to the pics.

Knowing the BD is now safely tucked up in bed, I can wish him a happy BD to greet him tomorrow

Birthday greetings from the southern half as well, to Ian (BD). I hope you have a super day with sunshine and snowdrops, crocuses and cake. And a toast of something nice as well (and I don't mean with marmite!).

Birthday greetings in abundance, Mr. Despot!   What a week it's been; saw the relentlessly brilliant David Gray at Manchester Apollo on Saturday; attended the Jim Lever Memorial Lecture at Ramsbottom last evening (Alan Furness presented his wonderful lecture; 'Building and planting a crevice garden in Northumberland), and now it's Ian's coming of age....What a week!

Have a spectacular day Ian, but resist attempting the Birdie Dance at your age!

Ian, of the Christie kind, the Emma looks so sweet - now go away and relax after a year as president you deserve a break :)

To Ian, the B.D., have a wonderful birthday - hope the weather allows you to get out into the garden fora while, take Lily girl for a walk and generally relax and enjoy yourself - definitely time this evening for a glass or two of something.

As we all know you like sculptures - here is a picture of one -we found it on a road on Karpathos - it was to big to take it away and send it to your garden.....

Enjoy it

Thankyou thank you all my friends for your kind birthday wishes. I also had phone calls from Jean and Thomas.
It was a busy day getting ready to go to Ayr tomorrow to give a talk and then to Dumfries on Thursday.

As the bouncing baby above has a picture I thought I would post a picture of me the birthday boy in my birthday suit :-[
