Not tried Scapa, but I like Highland Park which is the other Orkney whisky (who's clicked overwrite?). Been visiting Ardbeg of late.

Not keen on the malt or should that be Malt, heresy I know in the SRGC, but Madeira now that's a nice tipple.

Nice point, Shelagh, I have never heard it debated before. I have always used a small 'm' but I wonder? Maybe a small 'm' in general conversation but a capital 'M' when preceded by 'The'. One advantage of this forum is that there are plenty of school masters to keep us in line

I don't think I am going to let it bother me. Small 'm' or large one. Which reminds me I'm signing off now for a quick shower and then well, maybe a couple of large ones!!

Hi!
Thank you for those kind compliments! (Maggi i loved the birthday card!)
I had learnt and have soo many things to learn here! I am sorry not to participate more, but my knowledge regarding these kinds of plants is very tiny... And i am afraid of doing silly questions!

Mike, silly questions? I hope you are not challenging for my title? Don't worry about it.
There is no such thing as a 'silly' question. It may be a 'simple' question to an expert but if it is of value to you then it is valid and important. Keep asking.

Hurrah! Today is Paddy Tobin's birthday and, if you look here..
http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=54.new;topicseen#new
you will see that it is going pretty well on the gift rating, so far!
Many Happy Returns of the Day, Paddy.... are you cooking something tasty from your repertoire for a celebratory supper?

Thanks for all your good wishes - I spent my birthday evening in the Jamieson's Distillery - conference dinner you know - in Dublin and didn't admit that really I do prefer the Scottish stuff. . .
Does talk of Madeira remind anyone else of the Flanders and Swann song or am I alone in this?
Happy birthday to the rest of us Christmas babies.
