Hi Maggi!  :)

I had an message back from ukhardyplants saying, 'They are all elwesii' (not sure I understand that bit  :-\) but I could have my money back if I wasn't 100% happy.  Now I don't know whather to return the bulb or keep it and see what it looks like next year.

Can't say fairer than that. I would expect that if they are refunding they would want the bulbs back? 'Grumpy' should be elwesii.

Now I don't know whather to return the bulb or keep it and see what it looks like next year.

Ebay expects any "errors" to be identified quickly and if you don't do something soon after receiving the goods they will not support you in seeking a refund.  A few unscrupulous eBay traders play on this fact by supplying seasonal plants that are not in flower and that are not identifiably "wrong" until they do flower and you find what you have is a cheap "imitation".  I don't know anything about UK Hard Plants so please do not infer that this observation refers to them specifically.

Also, mistakes do happen.  I once had to take a snowdrop back to the shop at RHS Wisley after I became convinced it had been wrongly identified.

I hope this works...not very good at links!

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120854842167?ssPageName=STRK:MEBOFFXIT&_trksid=p3984.m1427.12648

Just scroll down.  The base of the leaves are recurved (I think that's the expression  :-\)

I got the impression that whoever emailed me back meant all snowdrops were elwesii and they spelled plicatus as pilactus twice!  It just doesn't look like the little patch of Grumpies I already have which fit the description in Snowdrops perfectly..and came from a reputable source.

The leaves don't look particularly plicate to me. :-\

The leaves only curl back from the base to about half way up then the leaves become flat.
I've been out looking at it this morning - it's tiny too - about 10cm tall.

Plicate leaves have a sharp fold to the tip, giving the leaf an "M" cross section.

Thank you very much to everyone for your help - I've decided to keep my little snowdrop and see what comes up next year!

Do any of you know this nursery    www.ukhardyplants.com

Apparently a German friend paid for snowdrops earlier this year and has had no replies to any of his emails.

Would like to help him, but need to know if any of you have had problems in the past.

Previously in the Forum , here : http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=8198.0 concerns were raised about this firm as a seller on ebay.

Checking ebay I see they are no longer a registered user. There are quite a lot of complaints :
http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=*ukhardyplants.com*&iid=-1&de=off&items=25&which=negative&interval=180&_trkparms=negative_180

Looking at the website, it is far from professionally set up -  makes one suspicious of the worst, I fear.
I know some had had satisfactory plants from them in the past , but things are not looking promising at the moment.

edit : I have joined this thread with the previous one.
