We'll keep an eye out for that and best of luck with the funding.

Just to let people know that Wentworth Castle Gardens is due to appear on countryfile on Sunday 30th January for around 7 minutes. They have been filming all day and should be featuring the conservatory, which hopefully we will get funding to restore it in the next 2 to 3 months, Wentworth Castle itself, Stainborough Castle (a large folly in the gardens, deer feeding and the gardens. Should be interesting.

Most interesting to see your slot on the programme, I do hope you get the funding, it would look amazing if you can restore it.  I was particularly interested as ancestors were woodmen on the Wentworth estate (presumably Wentworth Woodhouse) and so would have a view of the Castle grounds whilst they were working.  It was nice to see what they might have seen.

Hi Brian,

The Wentworth Woodhouse Estate is about 7 miles south-east of Wentworth Castle Gardens and just out of sight due to the lay of the land. Having two Wentworth Estates in the Barnsley/Rotherham area causes much confusion, even to the locals. Just wondered when the ancestors worked at Wentworth as both estates would have employed several people? We should find out if we have the funding for the conservatory by the end of March. Fingers crossed.

They worked as woodmen in the mid nineteenth century and lived in Thorpe Hesley Gary, their surname was Stacey.

Yes it would probably have been the Wentworth Woodhouse Estate as Thorpe Hesley is near this site.

Just to let you all know that the Wentworth Rhododendron Festival will be held 29th - 31st May.

I hope that there is still something showing. I was there recently and the azaleas were in full show and a number of the rhodos had blown out - but then again the place is packed with species and varieties I'm sure that it wil still be a bountiful festival.

A couple of recent pictures...
Yemen, what a country ... Haraz mountains, Socotra, Sana'a, Hadramaut, the empty quarter.... a country of stunning, mind altering beauty...and the friendliest of people.

Thats right Frazer. HLF have granted us £2.4m. The work on the conservatory should start soon and hopefully be completed in summer 2013.

Gary

I look forward to it in 2013. I visit Wentworth each year as an add-on to Harrogate Show in the Spring. Delighted that your campaign has borne fruit. Well done to all - and also to those who purchase lottery tickets (I must start!).
