Crocus scent

I find that many crocus are fragrant, but since I grow them outdoors, must get on hands and knees to catch a whiff.  The most fragrant of all are some of the autumn crocus, asumaniae and pallasii are particularly enticing.  Most of my Miss Vain have gone to the big crocus paddock in the sky, and I must replant this one some year; hope it remains more stable this time around

Tobacco?  Don't tell me that. otherwise I might start smoking again    Here only my galanthus smell of tabacco

I find it odd that Crocus can smell of tabacco; to me they usually have a very pleasant scent, sometimes light, sometimes stronger.

The attempt at humor was based on the fact Maggi and others made a ruckus about the fact my galanthus-inspired avatar was smoking, with members even posting links to outdoor smoking enclosures.

Mark S.... how could you have missed all this.... McMark's galavatar was stinking the whole forum up with the smoke from its pipe..... I've had to get all the virtual curtains cleaned!

I wasn't bothered by McMark's smoke, as it seems to be blowing the other way, off screen. Perhaps for northerners the wind was turned in the other direction?

Reading Armin's post on his Crocus lawn, where he mentioned C. chrysanthus 'Prins Claus' reminded me that this cultivar has an outstanding rich perfume,  Even though I grow mine outdoors, it is worth laying down on the muddy ground for a sniff.  Not to mention being a beautiful old cultivar as well.

a nice clump of "Prins Claus" hybridized 1959 and registered 1967. Makes a great show with perfume! I can imagine the sweet smell
This cv seem to suffer from current cold winter. Only a few tiny shots visible in my meadow.

My nice clump had been there 4-5 years, but the following year after the photos were taken, most all were lost to mouse tunneling over winter.  This was before I started planting Crocus corms very deep, which protects them from mouse and squirrel damage.  I planted a few purchased corms two years ago; they haven't bulked up yet.

I wondered why you'd need curtains  but then I realised you must have Windows on your computer!
