My question to you is can you identify the genus that these seeds are from ?

Sowing the seeds at depth has been successful for me too - the seedlings come up very strongly. On the other hand, none of the seeds that I stored in dry sand until September before sowing have germinated yet, whereas almost all of the ones I sowed fresh have done. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. You Crocus michelsonii are such a beautiful colour, it looks even better with the variation in colour within the same pot.

I've just caught up with this year's Bulb Log episodes. As always, so much valuable information and good advice as well as the super pictures.

In BL 1, I wonder Ian if you you the little hard blue slug pellets? With me, these don't go mouldy as the large, softer grey kind do.

In BL 2, I especially like the picture of Crocus biflorus isauricus where the flower colours are visible through the sheath. It reminds me of when my children raised monarch butterflies and just before they emerged, the full colours of the butterfly could be seen inside the chrysalis which at that stage had become transparent.

Thanks for yet another year of the wonderful Bulb Log.

Lesley, when we use slug pellets they are the little hard blue ones.


Bulb Log 2 and emerging crocus:
As crocus time speeds up...both BD and I are so excited to see the crocus emerging..whether its the colours seen through the sheath or the exotic markings of the outers, there is so much to study and enjoy.  Wonderful things, Crocus!!

As other guesses seem to have dried up, am I allowed one? I'm thinking they are one of the odder Fritillaries, probably one of the Japanese ones???

At last! Yes, Paul, that is the case.... there will be mention in this week's log ...... these seeds are most un-frit like really, aren't they?
