I'd love to be able to attend some of these events. A bit far to travel though.

Could you please tell me Maggi, for interest's sake, why should no Ericaceae be either displayed or sold when apparently other non-bulbous plants are acceptable?

Hi Lesley, I would think although not sure that it is because of disease. I know the botanics are worried about various diseases, you have to walk through a mat when you get there. I don't think it is racist against ericaceae. Maggie would have a word to say about that if it was.

Lesley, as Susan says, it is fear of disease transmission..... more specifically Sudden Oak Death, I believe.
The perception is that it is Ericaceae which  is the family most at risk from infection with and transfer off the disease (though others are  alos affected) and so this restriction is placed.

Maggi does that botanic garden really have an exclamation mark in the middle of it? :o

Probably not, Shelagh  :-\... I think it is a Turkish language character which has not been properly transfered to the forum font. I'll check it out!

I used Google Translate button on the botanic garden's home page; it comes up with rather amusing mistranslated text.  I pasted in a couple lines that caught my attention:

"All names and Latin scientific names of plants carrying Turkish labels are placed. When you visit here at various times, rare flowers, trees are visible around the spouses and the chicken can relax by watching ducks swimming in the pool."

"The hard northeast wind field, air and noise pollution, water issues such as the various problems in the summer months, although the fight was offered for the benefit of the people developing and increasingly becoming beautiful."

Yes, Mark, Ian the Christie kind got on the case!  ;D  The RBGE will have tickets later, if folk want to get them from there, but they don't gear up to sell them quite so far in advance.

RBGE now ready to take requests, I'm told: Tickets which include a map & directions, will be available
from Rachael Brown or Kerstin Price at RBGE on 0131 248
2844, at £9.50

Perhaps I'm being dense (or, rather, denser than usual) but where exactly do we get these tickets which are now available? Is the info somewhere else on the site or are they available from Barry?

Not sure who will have the tickets, Darren.......I was just told that they'd be available at the shows...... I'll try find out in the next few days if you can write to someone to bag some..... but Ian C  is away just now.

I'd suggest an email to Barry meantime!
