By george, that sounds like a lot more fun than hiking into Edinburgh for the "Bash" there, though the numbers involved may by similar ! ( Well, we're always told that that's how many are out and about at these events, can't say I believe it myslef!!)

Since it is now officially the New year on the other side of the world, I think I'll take that as an excuse to make hot toddy in celebration .... my old year cold needs all the help it can get!

I hope your cold is improving, Maggi.  Can the virus be transmitted through the Forum?  I had a cold start yesterday and am feeling quite miserable today.

Thank's to 'othersideoftheworldpeople' for their greetings !!!
Best whishes to you , here, we still have to wait 7h30 to see 2010, just enough to prepare foie gras, to put champagne in the fridge, and to shave  8)

Yes folks, it is already NY'sD here and I'm listening to a  nice programme of classical music put on each NY'sD from 8am to 8pm, called "Settling the Score." It is a line-up of Concert Programme's listeners' favourites through the year. Three choices can be sent in and the whole lot collated to choose the top 50. Mine for this year were Schubert's String Quintet, Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Beethoven's 32nd Piano Sonata. Of course one doesn't know what will come up until the last one is played. I'll have to take a radio out to the garden with me so as not to miss any.

Gisborne, where Gwen's daughter reports from, is just about the furthest east point in NZ so, given a sunny day, is the first place to see the sun in the new year, hence the big crowd, rapidly attaining, in local terms, something of the summer/winter solstice status of Stonehenge. Of course there are a few small South Pacific islands which are further east and on our side of the International Date Line, but we choose to ignore those. :)
