Janis - lovely selections.  The veined C surowowianus is especially nice.  Is there any possibility that the lilac C surowowianus is a hybrid with C kotschyanus.  (I do not know the geography well enough to know if C kotschyanus grows in this area.)

Superb markings on C. kotschyanus cappadocicus, Janis, but I thought I recalled you saying  some time ago (years?) that this crocus had more narrow, oblong  petals?  :-\

I don't think that petals of cappadocicus is narrow. This stock comes from locus classicus so I have no doubt about its naming, as it is in case of my hakkariensis which I named only by shape of petals.

Really suworowianus lilacinus is something mysterious plant for me. I got it without exact origin from Czech collector and allways was something doubtful about correct naming but I can't apply another name for it. I never saw and collected such forms in wild. There were only traditional white ones or with lilac stripes on base. I even don't know is my suworowianus lilacinus collected in wild or it was grown from garden seeds and so possibly it is garden hybrid. I still keep it as suworowianus lilacinus. I will ask my "donor" about this plant and will inform on forum.

Wonderful pictures, Janis!

Thanks for showing. Crocus cotschyanus cappadociocus is very catchy. It resembled me of another very beautiful striped crocus speciosus form from Iran, that you showed last year. It doesn't go from my mind.

Does anyone have photos of kotscyanus x ochroleucus? Does it exist? I dont know where mine came from but they have been with me at least one year and flowering for the first time now. To me they look like a form of kotscyanus

Mark,

Try this link:-

http://www.rareplants.co.uk/search.asp?strKeywords=kotschyanus&strSearchCriteria=all&CAT_ID=0&btnSubmit=Search

if that does not work, just search for 'kotschyanus' on the site.

They could have come from there but I dont remember. A good reason to keep invoices minus prices. I'm already convinced they are pure kotschyanus

One that I do know and flowering without any water is nudiflorus Orla

David,
I had the same problem but today the first flowers appeared, besides C. banaticus a single C. kotschyanus opened (sorry, no pic).
I am sure yours will follow soon.

I hope so Gerd. I shall be away in Spain next week so I hope I still have some left to picture when I return.

A number of times in his wonderful book 'Buried Treasures' Janis uses the term sensu lato. What does this mean, please? (At least I know that I don't know everything. :D)
