Trip to the habitat of Linum dolomiticum

Hello Everybody,
At last I had some time to shoy You again something (I hope) interesting.
A month ago, at 1st May, with the help of a new friend of us, who is the chief redactor of a gardening Magazine in Hungary, we made a trip to the habitat of
Linum dolomiticum
endemic to the hills around Budapest. I would like to show you the place and some other flowers too, which grow there, on that dolomitic rocky place.
Down in the woods -- they say -- can be found a few orchid species. We met only the Cephalanthera damasonium
Going up to the rather steep hillside:
Alyssum montanum
Festuca glauca:
Helianthemum canum:
Jurinea mollis:
Onosma visianii was not in flower yet
Thymus praecox

A beautiful natural rock garden on this huge rock:
And finally the nice little Linum dolomiticum. I've seen it at the first time in my life. It grows only on two or three places, which are not too common. It is a 10 cm high plant, with more silvery leaves as in the pics, and forms large clumps with rather big golden flowers. It is really beautiful, and extremely drought tolerant.
All pics were made by my husband. He is with the camera, I am with the plants... and with the selecting and naming the thousands of pictures.

Kathrine, this is a real rarity, I believe.
And it's a privilege that we Forumists may look at it.
Wonderful pictures of an interesting habitat.
And I always thought: Hungary = Puszta. Now I know that I was totally wrong

Kata, many thanks to you and to Zoltản for these super photos.
This tiny Linum with its large flowers is very special and I am excited to see it. Also to see the fine scenery and other flowers which you saw on your trip.

Thank You all, I'm happy You enjoyed it.
Luit, Puszta is the south-eastern part of Hungary. It also has interesting plants and birds, I really would like to see it, but it's not so easy, you must have good guidance, otherwise you can't find anything.

Katalin thanks for this lovely report wonderful plants
Luit as You may know Budapest is made up by joining to cities Buda and Pest on the west respectively east side of the Danube (Donau).
The western part Buda is hilly but the eastern part Pest is really flat like a pancake.
Western Hungary have the last dunes of the Alps as well so if not mountains then at least good hills. South of Balaton and on the road to Budapest from the south west it is flat almost until coming to Budapest. So Hungary is a bit of everything. I think there are more hills mountains in the east but I have not seen them my self.
Great seeing this plants and good to have local guides.
All the best
Joakim
