Peony Show at the Keukenhof Castle 2009
« on: June 01, 2009, 10:32:31 PM »
This weekend there was a Peony Show again.
Last year I showed a lot of pictures of this beautiful show held on the grounds of the castle.
This year the show was inside the castle, where some rooms and the stairs were allowed to use for arranging the flowers.
To see some pictures of the castle too, here is the link from last year's show:

http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1846.0

I visited the show on Thursday. Thursday and Friday are special days for professional gardeners
and Saturday and Sunday are public days with several other attractions on the castle grounds and there
are guided tours through the castle.

In the first batch two pictures of a colorful arrangement to attract people when arriving at
the grounds.
And some arrangements and flowers.

Luit,

What a brilliant setting for a flower show. The setting alone would be worth visiting and the paeonies are outstanding.

Many thanks for your report and photographs. Stunning!

The flower arrangements really bring the castle alive. Paeony flowers are ideal for their rich glamour to match the rich surroundings of the castle. A great pleasure to see this display, Luit, thank you!

Stunning, Luit.  'Red Charm' I have seen in person and I think it is probably my favourite herbaceous type.  So much like a waratah flower.  The display's you've shown are amazing, although I would perhaps not have put fluffy pink flamingos into my display in my own garden.  ;)
Cheers.

Thank you all for your nice comments.

To imagine what an enormous performance this is, I should have told you, that this show every year is organized by one single company: Compass Plants, which is a Dutch intermediary for perennials.

My goodness! That is a great effort from a single company. Even more impressive, then.
As I walk around our own garden or out with Lily the dog, I see a few paeonies here and there and think of this huge display.....I am so grateful that you share these visits with us all, Luit.

Luit - An incredible show.  Do you recall the name of the luscious one in bud under the barometer?

Luit,
Thanks a lot for those wonderful photos. The show is just tremendous and I liked the arrangements so much! The interspecific paeony hybrid 'Red Charm' is georgeous! In my country and neighbouring CIS countries it is one of the most selling cultivars.
