Two more species in flower at the moment,
O. neurostegium, a species with wide distribution in the E. Mediterranean, this one from last week at the Golan Heights at 1000m.

The second, O. fuscescens is an extremely rare species, almost extincted, we haven't seen it for a long time but three years ago i have found a new site [not known befor] with a few plants. this species can reach easily more than one meter in height giving it an Urginea appearance.

this is a gift from Tony Willis, an Ornithogalum sp# from Turkey, very close to O. nutans?

Rafa,
It is O. nutans, it is the only species that has this typical shape of flowers, having a short pedical.
Usually it has more bell shape flowers.
Tivon, in the lower Galilee, north Israel.
200m.

Ornithogalum reverchonii is just starting to flower and so I have photgraphed it.Ithink it will get better but we leave for our holidays in a couple of days so this is as good as gets this year. This is from seed collected near Grazelema in 1997

I think it is one of the best of the genus although the leaves are untidy.

Also in flower now O. umbellatum in my meadow. Similar to O. orthophyllum but smaller.
Another slight difference visible:
O. umbellatum is opening flowers with sunshine and closing flowers in the late afternoon (max 5.00PM)
O. orthphyllum keeps flowers much longer open until sunset.

Best wishes

Lovely to see them in a meadow Armin. We have some here that are recovering from years of overgrazing- one year quite soon they will look really good.

Simon,
O.umbellatum is not seen in masses around where I'm living and it is never seen on overgrazed land.
But it is said to be weedy in gardens when left undisturbed.

My 1st. sample of O. umbellatum appeared suddenly but never set seed. I assume the seed was initial spread by birds excrements or old seed was already in the ground when I built my house.
2years ago I implanted a view bulbs in the meadow due to pretty nice flowering. Now regular seed capsules appear. But no signs of new plants (yet) ??? :-\

Good luck for a successful recovery of your overgrazed meadow.
Best wishes
Armin

I think ous may be O.narbonense or one of the other tall ones. Sadly most hay meadows here seem to be cut just as it is flowering.
