Hi:

There are many miniatures in South Africa in Lachenalias (very many), Polyxenas, Androcybium, Eriospermum, Oxalis, Pauridia, Spiloxene, Ledebourias, Empodium, Daubenyas, Massonias, Ornithogalum, Geissorhizas, you name it. But frost free conditions and intense ligth are necessary for the plants to look natural and not lanky and etiolated.

indeed! the SA flora is rich in interesting miniatures! i will be growing indoors, and with supplemental lighting; i have a few things from this year's seeding, perhaps next year i will have better luck than i did with this order from penrock's! too bad, as they do have a great selection of forms with geographical information..
plant sources here in canada are about zero, so seeds it will be!..lol

Yuri that looks like a very attractive species with relatively more flowers and less foliage. Very nice. Is it native to Russia?

Two more species are starting to bloom
O. collinum, a small size plant that open its flowers even in a dark cloudy day.

O. umbellatum, in my opinion the showiest species in the E. Mediterranean, large flowers with large Crocus like leaves up to 40cm long, makes larg clumps. Usually grows in deep wet soils, often in cultivated fields. great plant for a medium size pot.

Rafa,
there isn't a lot of species with pilose leaves. This one should be O. armeniacum

Most probably. If it is armeniacum, pedicels should be more or less horizontal at fruiting time.

Rafa,

Does the leaf has the white stripe in the middle or is it a reflex of the light?

Beautiful species...and the photo is out of this world :o

Two views a month apart of one flowering for me (from Tony Willis) which I think is O montanum after seeing the pictures on this thread. Glad to have a name for it. First one taken in mid Feb, the other taken this morning in my kitchen (which is why it's a bit of a funny colour) hopefully there migth be some seed forming.
