Visit to Westonbirt Arboretum

Today we made a short visit to the Westonbirt arboretum. We had our 3 year old grandaughter with us which slowed us down quite a bit but it was still a great day. It should have been a longer visit but I underestimated the time it would take to get there and the number of toilet stops we would have to make.

In addition to wonderful collection of specimen trees there is also Maple Glade which is mainly Japanese acer cultivars and seedlings. The autumn colour variations are amazing. Wished I had a couple or three spare acres to plant these as I have to make do with  just a few at home

Great shots, great colour. It's one of those places I wish to visit and hopefully one day will. Any more photographs?

Paddy don't make the same mistake as me and leave home at 1pm (it was a good idea at the time) arriving at 2.45 with it getting dark at 4.45 it was a bit silly and a bit of a rush so few photos with the light being very poor. The place is definitely worth a day as there are several thousand very interesting trees in a forest setting. Though a whole day would have been out of the question for little Jessica

Spring at Westonbirt is also good for the superb mature specimens of big tree magnolias. It's only a few miles from here, but I'm just too busy to go anywhere this autumn. Even the native autumn colour in the local parks and woods is brilliant this year, though!

I was saying to Cindy that Westonbirt arboreum would be looking well at this time of year and lo-and-behold, pictures are posted on the forum!  It must be at least 20 years since we last visited but it is a place that has stuck in our memories.
