Several days ago we joined the meeting of the KSP at Nedvedice near Brno. It was very nice time
with more than 100 rockgardeners, mainly from Czechia, but also some guests from Denmark,Poland
and Germany.A marathon of lectures took us to the Drakensberge of Lesotho, Patagonia,China,
several places in Europe and beautiful private collections. We also visited the Brno Arboretum, famous
for its unconventional rockwork, Pernstejn Castle, Mr. Holzbecher's Nursery with many good plants
and private gardens. I was also fortunate enough to visit with friends the most northern location
of Cyclamen purpurascens.

Rudi, these very nice photos took me back to that marvellous weekend in Czech Highland (Ceska Vysocina).
I'd like to add some more - I've probably visited Mr&Mrs Holzbecher's nursery a few hours sooner (frost on plants).

And many thanks for your advice Rudi - to join SRGC and the Forum :)

Michael,

Again, a wonderful set of photographs. The first few in this posting show a very interesting garden, very imaginatively developed and planted.

However, I am just so jealous of the long lines of plants which are on display and sale at this nursery. How lucky for you. We don't have such nurseries here in Ireland - plenty of trees, shrubs and the ordinary run of herbaceous material but not such a good range of alpine plants.

Many thanks for an excellent posting. Paddy

A truely amazing garden and nursery that the AGS Ulster Group visited 4 years ago. Did he share his plum flavoured alcohol?

Yes, it is excellent. I've tasted it 2 weeks ago.
I gess it is not plum-flavored but it is real 'home made' slivovitz ( pl:"śliwowica", cz: "slivovice", I'm not sure of english translation)
i mean made of real plums , 100% natural product.
In Czechia people with own orchard can make fermentation of fruts at home and then make official destilation in destillery.
It was obout 52% strong.
Cheers.

Thanks Michal. In my mind I knew it was made with plums but the wrong wording came out.

We all didn't have to sit after drinking as it was only small warm-up (just to taste it). In Czechia slivovitz is usually 40% or 52% in shops ant this is drinkable in fact (quick shot :).
On previous RGCP meeting we have also tasted delicious pear, peach and apple speciality (calvados).
Maybe next year trip from GB/Ireland will be with us ?   :)
