What a fantastic thread - how can we understand the plants if we only get a summer snapshot. AND the mountains look fantastic too! How about a Pedicularis for the seed head ... ? P tuberosa perhaps.

Tony, I thought also of Pedicularis, BUT, in summer I have not seen Pedicularis at that place at all, I have seen a lot of Rhinanthus aristatus.
