Pottertons Nursery Open Weekend
« on: September 01, 2008, 05:32:21 PM »
Hello. Please come and join us at our Nursery Open Weekend on Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th September, the sales frames are well stocked with 100's of varieties of alpines & woodland plants and we are currently offering more than 500 varieties of dormant dwarf bulbs.
Throughout both days i shall be giving (with assistance from our children Hannah & Ellie) guided tours around the nursery & gardens, showing visitors how we grow our plants and the propogation methods used, although the emphasis will be to inform you on "how we do it" rather than actually encouraging you to set up your own nursery. Free refreshments served - teas, coffee & cold drinks and excellent home made cakes.
Details and travel information can be found at our web site.

If you are unable to visit but want to place an order for collection, I will also be attending the following events in the near future -
Ron McBeath/Lamberton Nursery Sales Days 20/21 September,
Loughborough Autumn 4 October,
Kent Autumn AGS 18 October.

I hope to meet up with many of you in the next few weeks.
Regards   Rob

Bob, I don't doubt that tours with Hannah and Ellie will be as popular as those with yourself! I recall the delight that greeted a friend's daughter as she, aged about three, pointed out the pretty blue flowers... they're Meconopsis betonicifolia, you know, says she...what a little star!
Hope you have a most successful weekend.. may the sun shine on you and yours!! 8)

What's your nearest airport?

In case Rob doesn't see your post Mark, I would say that Doncaster (Robin Hood) is the nearest airport but don't think Easyjet use it. Your best bet might be East Midlands but that leaves you with a difficult trip to Caistor. Leeds/Bradford would be a possibility, then to the M62, M18, M180 to junction 5, then to Caistor, not an easy trip either.

The closest airport is Humberside International, a posh title for a very small airport but its only 6 miles north of the nursery. Accomodation can be tricky but i can recommend a couple of local B & B's at very reasonable rates. Alternatively bring a tent, with 9 acres of ground i'm sure we can find a quiet corner for you. For anyone else we also have space for up to 10 touring caravans/motorhomes. Rates are negotiable but will almost certainly involve the washing of used plant pots.

Sorry that Carol & I won't be able to get - we will be heading up to Orkney that W/E.
Still, Rob is coming north to give a talk in October and we are looking forward to that. I understand that you will be bringing bulbs for sale as well, Rob?

For Scottish members or any preferring a trip north on the 13th September, there is, of course, the Dundee Late Bulb Day, where there will be two talks by Robert Unwin, as well as the chance to display any flowering plants and bulbs you have  8)

Mark,

If you can't get to the open day at the nursery, Newcastle airport is close to the Newcastle show site in Ponteland (about one mile). I know they have direct flights to Belfast, and you can even do the round trip in a day!

All being well we should be over tomorrow. Don't know whether you be on the forum tonight, but look forward to seeing you tomorrow, and any silver saxifrage you may have.
