Rare Alpine and Plant Weekend at Ploeger de Bilt
« on: August 23, 2008, 09:02:19 PM »
These are some impressions of the event which takes place today and tomorrow at De Bilt near Utrecht/Netherlands.
Besides the nursery of Ploeger de Bilt there were Ron McBeath of Lamberton Nursery, Pottertons Nursery and Jakob Eschmann from Switzerland.
It was stated: - together we have probably Europe's largest selection of rare and unusual alpines and dwarf bulbs

There were a lot of Dutch, Belgian and German visitors, although it seems to me I saw less than last year.
It was a bit rainy and you can imagine .....

1. ...that large parts of the Netherlands are below sea level
2.- 4. some views
5. Translation:  Don't forget to stick a label into the pot of each plant (self service)
6. A 'brickgarden'
7. Primula vialii
8. Clematis ' Mrs. N. Thompson '
9. Autumn flowering Anemones
10. Ron McBeath

Great show, Gerd!
I had a note in my calendar about this event, but before I buy more alpines
I have to finish my new rockgarden  :-\

Gerd,

What a collection of plants. This is something we miss very much here in Ireland. We simply haven't the population to make such ventures financially viable. We are left with internet shopping and growing from seed.

How lucky for you to have all this available to you.

Seems to have been worth while Gerd - I didn't go this year, I visited two years ago - and now I had to make the choice and chose to go to the AGS bulb sale in Cavendish on Sunday, which I enjoyed a lot..  :D
Too bad it was on the same day.  :'(

We have just returned from the RAW event in Holland at the weekend. This year more than 6,200 varieties of plants were offered and a remarkable opportunity was enjoyed, despite the weather by visitors from Holland, Germany, Belgium, France and Denmark. The day was very special for one person in particular - Dick Ploeger - who with his brother Wout had run the nursery until this January for the last 40 years. Below a photograph of Dick helping on our stand on Saturday.
