 Hello all.

A good friend of mine tells me she has exhausted all avenues within NZ in trying to obtain seed of Lilium chalcedonicum.

I'd like to surprise her so if anyone is growing it and able to spare a little seed this season,(as a swop ),please contact me.

Cheers dave.

Hi Dave,

I have a few young bulbs of L. chalcedonicum grown from seed sent by John Forrest about 2-3 years ago. They haven't flowered yet but when they do, I'll certainly be pollinating among them. At least I can confirm it's here. I wanted it so much after seeing it at the edges of Abies forest in Greece, July 1993. A gorgeous thing, sealing wax red, very thick and waxy textured. Others must have it too as it's on the bio index.

Thanks Lesley

Great to hear you have young bulbs and i'm also sure it's being grown by others here.

Still waiting to hear back from a couple of local contacts so fingers crossed.

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave

I very seldom look at the Forum so sorry for being so late in replying.  I've got 2 seed pods of L chalcedonicum, still waiting for them to ripen in the dull wet weather we've been having - but will chop the pods and dry indoors at end of the month.  Do you still need some seed - if so, I'd be happy to send you some.

Cheers, Liz

Hello Liz,
I "stumbled" on this forum just today. If you still have some of the L. chalcedonicum, I would love and appreciate it if you could send me some. I just started growing Lilium from seed, or better said, I just started having Liliums this fall and I am collecting Lilium seeds from all possible sources. I live in North Vancouver, Canada. Please contact me.
Regards,
Sue

Sorry, Sue, but I sent some seed to David Toole and then the rest went to the RHS Lily Group Seed Exchange.  If all goes well, I'll have more seed next summer/autumn and would send you some then if that's of any use?

Although there's no L chalcedonicum being offered on the SRGC seed list there is a great selection of other lily seeds this year.  It's definitely worth considering. (The SRGC Seed exchange is only open to fully subscribed members of SRGC)

Cheers, Liz
