This year I have some nice surprises on my Amaryllidaceae ...
now is Hessea breviflora flowering
( first flower after 10 years culture )

You always  have  something  interesting  coming  into flower, Hans!  So many  fine  South African plants  that  I  know  very  little about -to my  shame!

I dont know also not why in this year so many plants flowers ...
Either they must big enough ?
Or the hot summer in last year ?
Or they like something from my watering or fertilizing system ?

Many Amaryllidaceae are like "Primadonna's "  :o

Unless I kill them by accident, I never do... lol...I have cacti that have never flowered in many years, of course they look great all year for spines and epidermis.. some Haemanthus that still have single seedling like leaves (seasonally) after many years-- probably never enough light indoors to progress...

I grow also a lot of Cacti ...they have not repotting since more than 20 year ...but they flower each year !
Same with my Haemanthus ...the most importent is in my eyes  that the plants have resting times and growing times
In winter my Cacti get not a singe drop of water ...and my Haemanthus ( exept the the ever green species ) are dry from April - Spetember

yes, seasons are important for those plants... I have cacti that flower regularly, some never have-- I think some of those are species that need to be outdoors in full sun  in summer, which is not possible here, and I do not have a greenhouse, and others may want to be a bit colder than the house... other ones flower every time they are watered....lol
