Ficaria verna
« on: June 01, 2020, 07:03:13 PM »
I am puzzled about this plant. I got it some years ago as 'Double Mud', but it never came up the next spring.  Now suddenly in the same place grows this Ficaria verna, but it has green leaves so it isn't 'Double Mud'.
Did I get the wrong plant and if what could this be? I don't know what has happened, but I like this very much. :)
In the last picture is 'Alba Plena' which looks different.

I don't know why I thought 'Double Mud' had dark leaves. Maybe my plant is 'Double Mud'?

I think it  worth remembering that these  flowers  can change  quite  a  bit  as they mature- in the  way that Hepatica flowers  can do.

I looked at the back of the petals and they are right, so it is 'Double Mud'! :) It grows in a bad place (for taking pictures) behind a big Helleborus, and I will move it later to a place where it can be admired better. :)

It will be interesting to see what Your ´Double Mud´looks in the future! If it performs like shown in Your pics it would be a nice variant!

With our climate Ficaria is not at risk of over-running any beds!
In fact I keep this one in a pot to ensure it gets enough water.
It's a seedling I got from a friend and possibly has 'Brazen Hussey' in its background
cheers

If I only left my numerous Ficaria verna without water and get rid of them - just a dream!  ;D

The only Ficaria verna in the garden is this named variety, 'Brambling', which is planted in a low spot in the garden which is occasionally watered during the summer
