Galanthus in July 2019
« on: July 15, 2019, 09:39:01 AM »
Galanthus elwesii is one species that does reasonably well here in Central Victoria.
They started blooming a week or two ago and here is part of the little colony I show each year ;D
The original ones had either one or two green spots but the seedlings are quite variable, with small green apical spots, two green spots to large green splotches nearly covering the whole inner petal

Yes, Maggi  :)
As these are seedlings they are better suited to our garden (fitting in with what The Bulb Despot says!)
In another part of the rock garden these Galanthus elwesii seedlings also demonstrate difference in the pattern of green bits

The original cluster of Galanthus elwesii bulbs were planted close to the trunk of this Chinese Elm almost 20 years ago.
The second cluster a little further out are seedlings and are a week behind in flowering. But further away the next generation are only just in bud!

I was surprised to see this little galanthus in flower without any green markings!
It is next to the Galanthus rizehensis so I presume it's the same.
cheers

This year the Galanthus rizehensis can't make up its mind whether it wants to be a poc or not!
