Can anyone tell me what I should expect from this rather robust looking specimen?

Common sorrel or garden sorrel (Rumex acetosa) would be my guess.

That looks big enough to be a spinach plant, you could just taste it, it's definitely not a Primula...

Then spinach makes sense, you'd certainly taste something if it had been a sorrel. You can compare with this:
