Edrom Nurseries retail outlet closed.
« on: April 11, 2019, 08:22:25 PM »
I was hugely dissapointed today to turn up at Edrom Nurseries to find that their retail outlet had closed for good. I hadn’t visited their website for some time so hadn’t seen the notification. From time to time my wife and I would go to St. Abbs, have lunch, then walk our dog on Coldingham beach and end the afternoon, usually spending too much, at Edrom.
I’m sure it wasn’t a hugely profitable venture for them and that their mail order business and show sales are their main source of income but it was a good place to visit and I usually picked up something unusual.

The Notification on their Website:
As of January 2019, Edrom Nursery no longer offers an on site retail outlet.
Plant may still be purchased at the many fairs and AGS shows which we attend or via mail order though this website. Alternatively, pre ordered plants can be collected from the nursery site given advanced notice.

Crumbs!   News to me too. It has  never  been mentioned when talking about  the  specialist  nurseries  as  far as  I know. You'd think someone would  have  mentioned it, even if  Cath and Terry  didn't broadcast the  news. I'll amend the  link to  Edrom in our  links  pages.

No mention of SRGC then????

I live not far away from Edrom Nursery these days and was disappointed when I saw the notice on their website some months ago.  But they can never have had very much passing trade.  Still St. Abbs and Coldingham beach are very nice places to visit.
Almost in Scotland.

I had hoped to visit one day - but not till I retired

I tend to just email and pick up plants at shows - too be honest they come to a rare plant fair about 2 miles from where I live so its not an issue for me

Only thing about looking round a nursery is you see lots of other things you then tend to buy :)

Must admit though the plants I have had on order from Edrom have always been top quality

Thank goodness is it only the  chance to visit  Edrom itself that is  gone - and  not the  closing of the  business.
Sadly  Cath and  Terry  only  attend  one  SRGC  show  these  days, and  not  every year - they are  on the  rota to attend Edinburgh Show every  so often.
I can well believe their  exhaustion and  the  difficulty  of their  decision  taken, as  they assure  me, after  long thought, to maximise their  business chances  at the  same  time as trying to get  some  free  time  for  themselves without the  stress of struggling to  keep the  nursery  and  garden "visitor-ready."   The  life  of    nursery owners  is  ot an easy  one. I'm pleased that we  have  been able to highlight  here the news  about the  nursery  site, in the hopes  of saving others a wasted  journey.
