This picture posted  by  Razvan Chisu on FB shows just  how large the  potfuls are in the  Hoyles' six pan entry!!

Nice to see that great smile from Raz - he isn't around  the  forum much these days - but  he is  heavily involved in AGS  activities and  the  Saxifraga Society..... for example, he  edits the  Sax Society  journal and  leads  many  AGS  tours.   :)

A fantastic day out despite the terrible weather!
One of my favorites, Dionysia Aretioides, a close contender I am sure to the Forrest medal, as part of the 6 pan.

637294-1

As well as the fabulous Forrest medal plant, Saxifraga 'coolock kate'
Not sure how the flower is so consistent in colour as that hybrid tends to lose its colour on some of the flowers by the time the plant is covered, remarkable!

The big six pan was indeed a very fine exhibit so here is a set of photos of the six individual plants. Besides winning the Forrest medal with Sax. Coolock Kate the Hoyles  had the Ulster group quaich for  best Primulaceae with the big Dionysia and of course  the AGS medal for the class .

The rest of the six then Don Peace's winning  six small pans for  the other AGS medal- he also won the Hollett Trophy for most firsts in the open section, Lawrence Peet's Sax longifolia which took the Kirby Cup for best foliage award,  the Duncan  Lowe award for best plant in a 19cm pot went to John Dixon's   Dionysia.

The Ralph Heywood trophy for best shrub went to Alan Furness' Vaccinium retusum-on the left- then the  Michael Roberts Trophy
for section 2 won by Frank Dobson, the David Mowle award for best bulbs in section 2 went to Heather Barraclough's Narcissus cordubensis, while Michael Osborn took  the Reginald Kay Trophy for section 3.

Also a special award for Assistance  in the face of Pouring Rain should go to David Morris who when an exhibitor found he had a flat tyre stepped in and had it changed in just a few minutes.

Well done David.

Indeed he did but I had put my camera away by then so failed to record  the chivalrous gesture. I'm not sure  I  managed all the certificates of merit either but Dave Millward  had one for his pot of Narcissus obesus Lee Martin form  and  Peter Hood's Corydalis sewerzowii -on the right in the second photo- also received a certificate.
