A note from Yuwaza Engei that they will close their "English" plant list for overseas on 5th March.

Packaging for The Rock Garden issue 142

We have been working with our mailing house to find a solution to the use of plastic to send out the magazine packs. The latest issue was sent in recycled plastic to see if this was at least a halfway house and it can apparently be recycled in some areas here in the UK.
We are aware that the RSPB and Which are using compostable packaging, but this is only available on long tubular rolls of the composable material (potato starch is one material, another is paper) with a sealing machine that encloses each magazine.
We have to rely on ready made bags as our mailing house has not got the machinery needed and our run is very small in size.
You will be aware that our packs are heavy and this means our bags need to be sturdier than packaging for other magazines. I am sure that ready made bags will appear on the marketplace soon, but for now we are unable to source them in the size we need.
I have just learned that one package was received damaged overseas so if anyone here on the forum has had a similar problem could you let me know to give me a better idea of how they have travelled to different countries please?

Hi Chris,
We’ve received damaged journals in the past because of the flimsy packaging so I’m glad you are looking into the matter.
I worry when the plastic arrives ripped because the magazine could’ve easily fallen out!
NARGS used to have a tough fibrous sort of paper envelope but they were obviously too expensive as they were replaced by plastic after a few years.
Good luck with your endeavours to find a suitable replacement that is environmentally friendly
cheers
