« on: August 28, 2017, 03:38:50 PM »
Hello, Are there any nurseries in Europe outside of Janis Ruksans  that ship overseas? These nurseries will need to provide phyto. I live in Canada. Thank you. Erika

List of suggested specialist nurseries  here:   http://files.srgc.net/journals/NurseryListSRGC.pdf
Some of these will ship - Yuwaza Engei in Japan, for instance ....

A quick email to those offering mail order will tell you whether or not they can ship to Canada.

More  from Yuwaza Engei ....
" For overseas customers

We will be able to add Adonis named selection to our list again.
We have few more varieties this year.
The shipping term is from December to the end of January.
The last year, some varieties became sold out soon after we releas the list.
This year, we couldn't have the enough number of the each species, too.
We will wait for your early order."

A question from  Facebook about  this nursery - who can help.... from an English gardener ....
"Having read the website you pay for the plants and then are invoiced seperately for handling and packing. Anyone ordered from here and can give me an idea of these costs and also what, if any import duty we will pay. Thankyou."

The cleaning and packaging charge (phytosanitary compliance) is 20% of the total cost of the plants.

Postage varies depending on the size of the order but for me was 3000 Yen for an order of ten medium-sized plants (bare-rooted). 3000 Yen is about £21 currently (but may possibly be more after Brexit!).

I have ordered four times -always without a hitch. I have never paid any additional import duty. Sending the plants bare-root sounds harsh and prior to my first order I was apprehensive; however, great care was clearly taken with the cleaning process and the quality of received plants has always been very high.

I hope this is of help.

Steve, you are lucky. I ordered this year for the first time. The plants are dispatched on 28 January and are already in Belgium since 31 January but I am still waiting for my pakket. It is still with the customs. I telephoned to BPost they said I can only mail to the customs so I did that but no answer till now. The packet tracker stays the same. So I hope the plants will still alive when they finally get here.

Herman, I received the plants about 10-13 days after posting. This time in transit has not greatly affected the plants.

Steve, the packet tracer has changed. The packet has left customs and is now with Bpost (post Belgium), let's hope that it will arrive on Monday. Then it will be 15 days on the road.

My packet arrived today but I needed to pay an extra 69€ for the handling of the Belgium customs. That was a disappointment. But the good news is that the plants look good, a few are a bit elongated because of the 15 days on the road.  The plants were packaged very professionally.

For those ordering from Japan or China, use a mail forwarder (eg. https://www.tenso.com/en, i'm afiliated in any way with this company)
and you'll pay no customs.
They've their own customs clearance in europe (uk included  ;D).
You pay an extra service but in my case i never had to pay any customs fees.

They repack your items, you declare the value you want (buy 1000£ re-ship 30£ at your own risk) and usually pay 20£-25€ for shipping 2-3Kg from Japan or HK. Almost all parcels arrive here in 4-5 days.

Borderline method but cheaper than customs!
