Looking forward to the Tatton Park RHS show which starts 19th July.
Bob Worsley and his East Cheshire AGS crew will stage a display of different features of 'Alpines are for everyone'.
Lots of help from AGS groups in the area should ensure a very jolly time.

That sounds like more great work from Bob and his pals.  Razvan Chisu is also busy at Tatton Park, working again with the Cheshire group of the Hardy Plant Society on their display.

The un-named gentleman on the Tatton team is Paul  Mackenzie.  We met him yesterday when we visited the stand. It generated a lot of interest and there were plenty of people who stopped to look, take pictures and ask for information about plants and local groups.

Here finally pics from Tatton Park, where everyone had a great time.
Seemed to be fewer visitors this year and selling memberships was tough, but a good outcome in the end for the East Cheshire Group team.

The offer which proved a very useful hook in getting visitors talking - and joining.

John, as a matter of interest do you know how many people did join at the Show? That offer certainly looks good. When I joined 'n' years ago everyone received 'A Handbook of Rock Gardening' and it wouldn't be such a bad idea to write a new one! I know the new Meconopsis book that was launched at Chelsea will have great appeal to many present members but I wonder how effective it was in enticing new members? The best, and cheapest way, of doing this would be to plan a special issue of the Journal specifically aimed at the practicalities of Alpine Gardening and written by a cross section of the membership; it could be launched in two years time at Chelsea to celebrate the 90th year of the Society with a display that garners the same outlook... The Tatton display looks a pretty good primer to draw on. Even better if the display were to be outside, which could illustrate 'gardening' with alpines more effectively, but that's probably too optimistic  ?

It looks like 20 at the show Tim plus more on line I am sure. Yet to be advised.
The book was John Goods 'Alpines for Beginners'. A colourful and very straightforward tome with solid info on how,where and what.
Along with the bulletins it proved very effective on getting people to take the society very seriously.
