Ron Robertson asks the Scottish Rock Garden Club.....
One of my friends suggested I post this picture here. I can't figure out what it is. It's been suggested it's some form of Oenothera, but I can't find one that has that reddish pistil. The leaves are a little fuzzy, and there's actually a little gloss to the leaves as well. I don't think it's seeds I scattered in my border, though the fact that it's in the hot-color portion does make me wonder if I put something out I'd forgotten about. Anyway, I'd be grateful if anyone knows what this is. The flower is about 1.25 to 1.5 (3-3.8cm) inch across. I'm in central west Texas, at just over 2000 feet elevation.

Can we help Ron out?
