Ice Wave...

As an addition to my various snowy scenes on this Easter Sunday, I thought to share these pictures forwarded to me by a friend in Michigan. This is *not* the Arctic---this is northern Michigan!!!!!

Isn't nature magnificent!!!!!



The letter accompanying the pictures said:

An Ice wave from the floor of Lake Huron near Mackinaw Island.....

Michigan has had the coldest winter in decades. Water expands to freeze, and at Mackinaw City the water in Lake Huron below the surface ice was supercooled. It expanded to break through the surface ice and froze into this incredible wave.

The pictures are authentic but from Antarctica in  2002 not Lake Michigan in 2007/8 .

Stunning photos, wherever they're from! Awe inspiring.
Saw a super photo in a newspaper  the other day of a floating ice berg which had a lovely rounded surface, with bands of different colours running through parts of it.... the whole gave the impression of a huge  smooth pebble! The colours were the product of thawing and freezing, algal blooms and debris picked up sliding across the glacier... there were blues, browns, blacks  etc... really beautiful. Sadly the paper isn't in my possession or I'd photograpgh the pic for you.
