Pot culture is fine -but you will need a deep pot.
Drainage and water management are key -I would add some JI3 to your grit (perhaps 1:5), rather than grit to the JI3.
I grow mine in a gritty coarse sand mix with a touch of loam and additional pumice added. It is in a deep long-tom pot sunk into another long-tom which is plunged in a sand bed in my alpine house (this keeps the crown and most of the rootstock above the level of the damp sand plunge). I water freely (with added tomato feed) when in growth but then cut back the watering as the flower buds start to swell. By flowering time I am only watering the "outer" pot.
I only have the one plant which has set a small amount of seed. It got its first autumn drenching about 1 week ago and three small rosettes have now appeared -these should start to grow in late winter.
