Trentham Gardens Stoke on Trent Staffordshire
« on: July 26, 2016, 05:30:27 PM »
On our way home from John Massey's garden we called at Trentham Gardens. Both of us remember going as teenagers but in those days it was known for it's funfair and rides.

Today it is a feast for the senses. Not cheap £10 entry and £8.50 for pensioners, but well worth it at this time of year.

The floral Labyrinth is tremendous. Most beds topping the 6ft mark and so densely packed.

As you get to the end of the Labyrinth you come to the Italian Garden, just as breathtaking.

All this would have been right next to the house.

This was the Hall in 1850. The ruins are the remainder of the new entrance built then, the red parts of the layout are all that is left. It was mostly demolished in 1911, quite unbelievable.

Finishing shots. Some rather large weeds, something for the Galanthophiles and one of the Fairies which are dotted about for children to spot. Finally a new planting this year of a hillside meadow.

My word - quite a place - shame about the house's fate but at least the gardens are lovely.
