Alan - a group of Norfolk AGS members have been on a Scottish Adventure  (sensible folks!) - they also visited Branklyn Garden in Perth - David's excellent photos from there are in this thread.... at the beginning.

I think the "un-named clematis" is most likely Clematis  x Cartmannii 'Joe' ( or at least  one of it's close relatives! )  This hybrid  plant was first grown over here by seed raised from Joe Cartmann in New Zealand by Margaret and Henry and named by them to honour Joe. Fantastic plant.
