No, Maggi, I wasn't suggesting it was an issue but thinking how times have changed.  A decade ago we had the (now defunct) Galanthus Gala in the UK and that, I think, was it for snowdrop events that weren't for a select few by invitation only.  Now there are so many public events in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands that it is almost inevitable that some will take place on the same date.

Edit: I've now remembered the RHS London Show in February, which has been an 'unofficial' snowdrop event for many years (although recently threatened by the RHS mucking about with it).

It is indeed remarkable how  many of these events there are now - and at least so long as one can afford the ticket price for some, they are open to many more people.

Details of the HPS Galanthus Group "AGM and Study Day" arrived in the post today.  The venue will be the same as last year (Chedworth, Gloucestershire), giving participants the opportunity to visit the other of the two gardens if they came in 2016.  But whereas last year the event was held on the Sunday immediately after the Shaftesbury event, this year it is 8 days later on Sunday 19th February 2017.

The two talks in the morning will be:
"The origins of the Diversity of Garden plants" by Julian Sutton
"Species Snowdrops" by Jim Almond

In the afternoon participants can visit either the garden of John Sales or Cerney house Gardens.
Almost in Scotland.

There doesn't  seem to be any Snowdrop sales at this years AGS Snowdrop event. Does anyone know why? They say they are resuming in 2018

Info now on AGS site  re their  snowdrop day, includes  list of sellers expected  - see here
The tickets for the AGS event are now available to non-AGS members, subject to availability.
The event is in this venue : Ford Hall, Lilleshall National Conferencing Centre, Newport, Shropshire TF10 9AT - which I believe should allow for a larger audience.

Details of the event held by the Snowdrop Group of the Cottage Garden Society arrived in the post here yesterday:

The event is to be held on Saturday 18th February at the Godolphin School, Salisbury, Wiltshire.  It's open to members of the CGS Snowdrop Group and each member is allowed to bring one guest (subject to availability).

After refreshments and snowdrop sales at 10:00 there are two talks:
'Meet the Galanthophiles' given by Jennifer Harmer
'Never Waste a Bulb' by Chris Horsfall

In the afternoon there are visits to Westcroft and Heale Gardens.  Paul Barney may have been too late to get a sellers' slot at the AGS event but he is amongst those selling snowdrops at this one.

Almost in Scotland.

News of the 2017 Snowdrop Days at the Chelsea Physic Garden
28 January – 3 February 2017, 10am - 4pm

See Snowdrops in all their glory before the rest of the country, thanks to the unique warm micro-climate at Chelsea Physic Garden.

Once again Nick Bailey, our Head Gardener, and his team will be creating innovative displays by elevating snowdrops so that visitors can admire their intricate details up close. There will also be an unexpected injection of colour to these typically white icons of spring.

The Snowdrop Trail will lead you around the Garden’s collection of over 120 cultivars and species, highlighting their provenance, breeding and distinctive patternation. Our team of volunteer Guides will also be giving free tours of the Garden’s displays and winter plant interest.

The Growing Friends volunteers will be selling a huge selection of rare and unusual snowdrops and spring bulbs in the plant marquee, and will be on hand to lend their advice in caring for these winter beauties.

Tangerine Dream Café will be serving a selection of warming lunches and snacks. The Book & Gift Shop will be selling a range of garden and snowdrop themed books and gifts.

Entry: Adults - £10.50. Children, students and jobseekers, £6.95. Free to Friends of the Garden.
Throughout the event there will be snowdrop themed Walks, Talks and Workshops.

Free events:
Joe Sharman, Monksilver Nurseries - Sensational Snowdrops talk, Saturday 28 January, 2.30pm
Nick Bailey, Head Gardener - Best in Snow tour, Saturday 28 January, 11.30am and 1.30pm
John Grimshaw - Galanthus Galore talk, Sunday 29 January, 2.30pm.

Snowdrop-inspired workshops and tours (pre-booking required):
Sue Bishop - Snowdrop Photography, Sunday 29 January 10am – 4.30pm, £105 including lunch
Nick Bailey – Behind the Scenes Snowdrop Tour, Thursday 2 February, 11.30am-1pm, £29
Lucy T Smith - Painting Snowdrops, Friday 10 February 9.30am – 4pm, £105 including lunch.

For full details and course bookings, please visit the website from December 2016.

Earlier Garden Opening
In a change from the Garden’s usual opening hours, the 2017 Winter Season will extend beyond the Snowdrop Days opening. The Garden, Café and Book & Gift Shop will be open Monday – Friday, 11am-3pm 6 February - 31 March. The Main Season begins on 2 April 2017.

There are still a few places left on the SRGC Snowdrop day. This will be a great opportunity to meet and hear from the renowned galanothophile, Matt Bishop, to have privileged access to the special 'drops at Brechin Castle and will be a great outing with friends. The day will start at 10am at Westmuir Village Hall (see here for location) and will cost approximately £15. Contact ianchristie@btconnect.com to register your interest.

The SRGC Snowdrop Day 2017

We have set the date of Sunday 26th February 2017 for our club’s
Snowdrop Day. Thirty members (only) are invited to meet at
Westmuir hall at 10 o’clock in the morning for a programme
that will include a presentation by Matt Bishop, a visit to Brechin Castle
to see special snowdrops, lunch at the Castle’s garden centre (under
£10, or bring your own lunch). We will then travel on to Maulsden to
view the special colony of Galanthus plicatus and take a walk around a
million or more Galanthus nivalis. The cost per member is around £15
and we will provide coffee and tea at the hall. For any further details
please contact ianchristie@btconnect.com
