The Garden House (Devon) 11 March 2016
« on: March 11, 2016, 08:35:11 PM »
Our first visit of the year today in the GH's second opening week of the year. We were accompanied by Mike Quest and his wife Margaret (hello Margaret) and, as we had dined beforehand, no cake was consumed. I realise that this will upset some people!

First a set of general pictures from around the garden.

a rather nice un-labelled little Daff
Narcissus 'Sulphur Star'which I quite liked the shape of
N.  'Usurper', a new one on me which I'll have to look up
Pulmanaria 'Benediction' which I thought was a better colour than 'Blue Ensign'

Thanks for showing these images, David, it brings back some fond memories.

We paid several visit in the late 1990s. Keith Wiley was head gardener at the time; his wife Ros was is a very good artist.

My pleasure Chris. For those who don't know, Wildside (Keith and Ros Wiley's garden and nursery, will be open in 2016 but only for June 24-30 and July 25-31, 10-5 on all days mentioned.

Just realised that I ruined my own joke in Reply 2 where I referred to a wonky wall plaque requiring a Yorkshire stone mason to get it straight....... and then forgot to post the picture. So here it is

In reply 3 I pictured a Daff that I liked a lot called N. 'Usurper' and I've now had time to do some further research.

Reference to Daffseek shows that N. 'The' "Usurper" as synominous with N. 'The Englander'; Hybridiser unknown; Registered, 1992; Registered by Potterton and Martin. That of course led me to Rob Potterton'/s Wb Site where Rob says "Named by my late father, this was one of his favourites.

That's one ticked on my order to start with.

Thank you for posting these images David. A wonderful place to visit even from the computer chair  :D
And how beautiful is the Pulmonaria; often overlooked when it comes to the spring flowers (at least in our parts).

Glad you enjoyed them Gabriela. If you have time and would like to see a typically English Spring garden you might take a look at these

Surely a Yorkshire stone mason would say that it was the wall that was wonky David?  ;)
