Bohinj international wildflower festival 2016
« on: January 27, 2016, 07:43:09 PM »
Hi guys,

A group of Gardeners will go to the International wildflower festival 2016 around Lake Bohinj in SLovenia. Has anyboby here already been in this area around late May. If yes can anybody recommend some special places to see?
We will attend some botanical tours but it would be well appreciated if somebody could give us some advice.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Michael, we visited this part of Slovenia thsis August. You can see a few photos on these threads:

Also I can recommend the carniolicum blog:

Basically it's all fabulous though. We parked the car in a layby along the shores of Lake Bohinj and walked about 10 m to the lake. In that space there was Helleborus niger, H. viridis, Cyclamen purpurascens, Aconitum napellus, Paris quadrifolia, Epipactis helleborine, Hepatica nobilis, Aconitum lycoctonum and Gentiana asclepiadea to name just a few. The Vrsic Pass is great and to be honest we didn't even get that high. I'd also strongly recommend the Tolmin Gorge. Don't ignore the skies either, there are loads of great birds and butterflies. Have a great time, we did.
