Megacodon stylophorus

Does anyone have any experience of germinating this species that they can share ?  Last year I sowed two lots of wild collected. A batch from Trillium.no was sown on January 4th but so far no germination (almost everything else from Bjornar did germinate). I also got seed from Ray Brown (BVH44) which was sown 12/12/14 also failed to germinate. Is this just a slow germinating species or does it need special treatment ? (Our 'standard' sowing system gives very high success rates with 'easy' species.) I have found a previous correspondence but am still not clear how long germination takes - what is clear is that we are for the long haul. Good reason to hang on for a few more years if ever get it started !!

I seem to remember them germinating in their second year, meaning yours might germinate next spring. I suspect they need a warm-cold-warm cycle like Trillium. 2 year old seeds (Holubec) germinated almost as well as the fresh ones, but they were only at the 4 leaf stage when I moved to China. Prick them out in early spring in their second year after germination, before growth starts, like you would Glaucidium. (It worked well for me, almost no losses.)

Edited to add: They're heavy feeders, or at least they seem to appreciate it.

Thanks, Bjornar. I have hung on to the pots in hope so let's hope we get some winter to help break dormancy.
