Yes, there a past mention of the Caprea series here http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=11488.msg299063#msg299063 but Paul doesn't really say very much.  Which is a pity, because I would feel more comfortable about buying one if I knew more about them.  It's a pity because many of the other snowdrops on his list are unusually well-documented as to their originator.

Just to clear up what the Caprea series is. Decora Nursery of Buzet have been growing Galanthus nivalis for many years. Angelina is one of theirs. They have never been able to sell many in Croatia. Since Croatia is now part of the EU there is no restriction on the movement of Galanthus. It is like buying or selling Galanthus to Germany or Holland. Decora Nursery have let me go through their collection and I have selected out a number of good forms. We have agreed to call these Caprea Series to distinquish their snowdrops from others I might be selling.

Hello Paul,  thanks for casting this light on the history of the Caprea series. So interesting to know the back story on the plants and to have  new  'drops to look forward to   8)

Likewise, thanks Paul.  I think provenance tends to be under-valued in the world of snowdrops but I believe it is important.  Could I suggest in future you include a brief explanation of the Caprea Series in your list, for the benefit of ignorant people like myself.

It is so good to see your flowering snowdrops.  :)
Over here only the un-named G.reginae-olgae has flowered since late October, 'Cambridge' and 'Tilebarn Jamie' had not developed since the beginning of November until last week-end the storm brought also here warmer weather, and when it was over +10C for two days both of their flower point now down, but I don't know what will happen to them when next week it will be below zero day and night. I will have to put dry oak leaves around them for shelter. All other snowdrops here are only peaking from the ground at the best.

This is 'Cambridge', is it normal for it to have leaves come at the same time as the flower? The nameless G.r-o has only flowers, and no sign of leaves yet.

I will try to do better in future, Alan!  I do this Galanthus thing while running a couple of estates and a landscape design company! I thought I did well to get a list out
before Christmas...I think I have referred to the origins of Caprea series here before..i.e the post on the lost Galanthus 'Decora'

Paul, you wrote:

.... I was wondering if anyone grew 'Decora'.... . It is from the gardens of Angelina & Branimir Petrisevac in Croatia, the home of 'Decora' Nursery (also the home of the equally lovely Galanthus 'Angelina'). My understanding is that this is one of a few bulbs sent to Gunter [Waldorf] by Angelina & Zlatko. Unfortunately Decora (the Nursery) lost a number of snowdrops to Botrytis, including G. 'Decora'. Has anyone ever seen it offered or does anyone grow it?

As I don't have a photo of G. Decora (page 87 Snowdrops) I have attached a photo of another of Angelina & Branimir's snowdrops that did survive the Botrytis currently called Caprea Series 10

I never figured out who 'Zlatko' was - but I probably ask too many questions!

How variable are your Galanthus cilicicus? Mine look like two different species. One has blue leaves while the other has thinner slightly twisted leaves. One has a large mark while the other has a smaller mark. Both are growing outside in the new plunge and have well developed leaves.

Not the best photos because its very dull here today

Galanthus 'Faringdon Double' took a long time to open.

Galanthus 'Three Ships' has sailed in a few weeks early.

Two drops popped open today, Galanthus elwesii 'Hiemalis Group 'Donald Simms Early' and Carolyn Grahame's recent American introduction, G. 'Xmas'.

Cheers!
