Arctic-Alpine Botanical Garden in Tromsø, Norway
« on: June 05, 2015, 01:44:30 PM »
Hello everybody!

From time to time there are some people who say that they would like to visit this garden.
I will try to give you an impression of what the garden look like during this season.

My first visit this year was 29th April, and the following images are from that visit.

The entrance to the garden:
491143-0

An old house has been moved from the city center to the garden. The house is a now a small cafe open during the summer months. To the right is a building looking like a old barn, but it contain facilities for the staff.
491145-1

In late April it is not much in flower, but the native Saxifraga oppositifolia had started the show.
491147-2

The garden contains lot of stones. There are mountains designed to different parts of the world, like Caucasus, South America, Himalaya and so one. There are also areas for specific group of plants like Primula and Saxifraga.

Here is a view of the Caucasus area.

To be continued....

It is hard to understand how high the bulid-up mountains are when there are no people around.

The garden does also have a big collection of old plants. The plants has been collected from a lot of different gardens in the North of Norway. I will post more of this later i the season.

The next posting will be from a visit 1st of June.

Very interesting Viggo. In July, we come to Norway and we will stay one night in Tromso. It is a tour with a group, so I hope to have some time to visit the garden.

Hi Herman, we too are visiting this wonderful garden - but we don't arrive until early August, so we hope you can leave one or two things in flower for us until we arrive.  We are anticipating our visit with great relish and just hope that the sun shines on our days in this stunning location.  Many thanks Viggo for this super post.
